Darlington Citizens Advice is run by a elected Board of Trustees, whose principal functions are to determine strategy and policies, to establish guidelines and to review performance and management.
Originally from Middlesbrough, Robert joined the Board in 2012, and was appointed Chair in 2014, when he retired from Darlington Building Society after 34 years service. He is a member of the Finance Committee.
As a mature student, Robert gained a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Teesside University. He has an interest in Social Housing, and has previous Board experience, working with three different housing associations, from 1999 to 2015.
He has been a keen road cyclist all his life, joining his first proper club in 1969 “before lycra had been invented”.
Paul manages the treasury function within Darlington Building Society where he has worked for the past 12 years. Paul joined the Board in 2017 as Treasurer and leads the work of the Finance Committee. A proactive and strategic treasurer, with a strong focus on financial forecasting and planning, Paul brings to life complex and difficult questions with an engaging and clear style.
In his free time Paul is an avid football fan. Having been a supporter of Liverpool football club all his life and hopes to see them more often after getting to Anfield last year for the tour and a win.
Barbara moved to the North East from her home town of Stockport to go to Durham University and has remained here ever since, apart from 4 years in Suffolk. A degree in French and German led to a career in teaching and a love of holidaying in Europe but particularly in France.
Since retiring 8 years ago she has been doing voluntary work at HMP Holme House in Stockton. In 2018 she became a trustee and a member of the Operations Committee. Both roles have made her aware of the problems experienced by people and their need for help and support.
She enjoys going to the gym, listening to music and reading. She is very proud of her connection with Citizens Advice.
